Hollow glass microsphere is a kind of specially processed glass microsphere. Its main characteristics are smaller density than glass microsphere and worse thermal conductivity. 

It is a micron grade new lightweight material developed in the 1950s and 1960s, and its main component is borosilicate. In general, the particle size is 10-250 μm, and the wall thickness is 1-2 μm. Hollow glass microspheres have the characteristics of high compressive strength, high melting point, high resistivity, low thermal conductivity and thermal shrinkage coefficient, etc., and are known as "space age materials" in the 21st century.

Hollow glass beads have obvious weight reduction and sound insulation and heat preservation effect, so that the products have good cracking resistance and reprocessing performance. It is widely used in engineering plastics, anti-corrosion insulation materials, rubber, buoyancy materials, FRP, artificial marble, artificial agate, wood and other composite materials, as well as the petroleum industry, aerospace, 5G communication, new high-speed trains, cars and ships, heat insulation coatings, adhesives and other fields. 

Hollow glass microspheres are tiny, hollow, spherical powders. Particle size can be arbitrarily selected between 30-100 microns according to needs, and the density is 0.1-0.7g/mL. 

It has the advantages of light weight, large volume, low thermal conductivity, high compressive strength, dispersity, fluidity and stability. In addition, it also has excellent performance of insulation, self-lubrication, sound insulation, non-water absorption, fire resistance, corrosion resistance, radiation resistance, non-toxic and so on.

It can be directly filled in most types of thermosetting, thermoplastic resin products, to reduce the weight of products, reduce costs, eliminate the internal stress of products to ensure dimensional stability, high compression resistance, impact resistance, refractoriness, sound insulation, insulation. Some expensive fillers, such as light diffusers, bronze powder, molybdenum dioxide and white carbon black, can also be banned.

Chemical composition: silicon dioxide, alumina, zirconia, magnesium oxide, sodium silicate, etc. Its particle size of ten to a few hundred microns, for the interior filled with CO2 gas closed microspheres. And it has the advantages of light weight, low thermal conductivity, non-toxic, non-flammable, good chemical stability, high dispersion and so on. It is an excellent product filler for artificial marble, FRP, putty, paint, plastic, explosive, chemical, building materials and other industries.

Good liquidity

Because hollow glass beads are tiny round balls, they have better fluidity in liquid resin than lamellar, needle-like or irregularly shaped fillers, so the filling performance is excellent.  More importantly, the small beads are isotropic, so it will not cause the problem of inconsistent shrinkage rate in different parts due to orientation, which ensures the size stability of the product and will not warp. 

Sound insulation, heat insulation 

Hollow glass beads inside are thin gas, so it has sound insulation, heat insulation characteristics, as a variety of heat insulation, sound insulation products excellent filler.  The thermal insulation properties of hollow glass beads can also be used to protect products from thermal shock caused by alternating hot and cold conditions. High specific resistance and low water absorption make it widely used for cable insulation. 

Low oil absorption rate

The particle of the sphere determines that it has the smallest specific surface area and low oil absorption rate, which can greatly reduce the amount of resin in the process of use, and the viscosity will not increase much even under the premise of high amount of addition, which greatly improves the production operating conditions and can increase the production efficiency by 10% ~ 20%.
